The once sleepy plaza on Oakland Park Boulevard between 6th Avenue and Dixie Highway is now becoming a local destination. With the recent addition of Wreck It Ft Laudy, located at 830 E Oakland Park Blvd, you can now have a safe space to wreck items. From themed rooms, to corporate events, to 20 minutes all alone to blow off some steam, you’re sure to find a package that’s right for you.

With packages with names like hammered, smashed, obliterated and B.Y.O.B (bring your own breakables) you would be hard pressed not to take a gander. Want to go beyond abusing small appliances? You can even book a themed room in advance. A kitchen, living room or perhaps your day at work would lead you to wreck an office? These are all available options at Wreck It.

What are you gonna wreck today?

Your Chance to Let it Out

Wreck it’s mission, according to their website, is to provide a safe space for people to let it out and have some fun. A place to relieve the stress of day, without having to clean it up. Don’t feel like wrecking things? You can sit back and watch the fun from a live feed in their waiting area which is adorned with art from local artists. Many of whom give back to the community with portions of their art sales.

Pick Your Weapon

Upon entry you’ll be greeted and fill out a waiver (18 and over only). Safety gear will be given out and You will have the option to select a baseball bat, crowbar, sledgehammer, pipe or golf club to get started. Don’t forget to sign your name on the window as you leave to head right next door to Fat Tap Beer Bar & Eatery.

At Fat Tap you will find a huge array of craft beers and yummy flatbreads. Their bio states: “We are a craft beer centric bar and eatery. Our concept is unique whereas we support only independent breweries. Our beer line-up changes, our artwork changes so there’s always something new to see or drink.”

Local Artists in Evidence

Which is very true. Each week or so a new artist is selected to display their work for sale and often- times you can catch the artist having a beer and have the opportunity talk to them about their work. They also feature many local musicians. If you’re lucky, you may even catch an impromptu drift cart performance in the parking lot from Taxi Garage. A group of cart enthusiasts with modified Razor carts which they call “crazy carts” who offer aftermarket performance parts.

Be sure that you don’t wreck those old record players though, because We Got the Beats Record store now calls a portion of the east side of the plaza home. Recent transplants from US1 in Ft. Lauderdale, they buy and sell vinyl, cd’s tapes and more. We are certainly looking forward to the revival of this plaza which is now allowing Oakland Park residents even more choices for locals to stay close to home.
