Last night Oakland Parkers watched as Fire Rescue divers pulled the body of 29 year old Oakland Parker Frandy Colas from the lake at Royal Palm Park. On the heels of Colas’ death, another Oakland Park man, 24 year old, Andrew Scutt, lost his life in a scooter accident in his own backyard.
BSO received a call at 10:42 AM that there had been a crash at 1573 N.E. 35th Street. When BSO arrived on the scene they found Scutt lying on the ground. He was unresponsive when deputies arrived.
The initial investigation by BSO Traffic Homicide detectives found that Scutt entered the backyard of his residence through a gate on the west side. He rode in on his 2020 Revolution X Speedlight Scooter. As he drove northbound through the yard he struck a fence and was thrown from his scooter. Scutt, who was not wearing a helmet never woke up from the crash. He was pronounced dead by BSO when they arrived on the scene.
For two days in a row Oakland Park has seen the lives of two young people lost. Both accidents could have been prevented. While we lament the loss of these two young men and pray for their families let us, as a community, learn from these tragedies so they don’t happen again.
