Many people at some point in their life decide they are dissatisfied with the work they do and decided to change their long-term careers and starting to pursue the type of work they have always dreamed about and have a passion for – striking out on their own. Or they may be in their dream job and have found that it was not as fulfilling as they had thought and begin to ideate about more fulfilling ways to make a living.
Whatever motivates you to change, changing your lifestyle and your career is a dramatic undertaking. It can be hard to leave the nice comfy job, a steady paycheck and take a leap of faith into the unknown. On the flip side however if you do take that leap of faith you are creating a context in which you can change your life dramatically.
Is Now the Time?
When you get to the point that you are ideating constantly about a life change, you have reached “the time”. Sometimes you still aren’t comfortable with the idea of change but then an opportunity might come a long and give you a shove in the right direction.
COVID-19: An Opportunity to Change Careers
COVID-19 shook up our world, and took away our normal. But the current state of emergency may indeed be presenting you with an opportunity to change. Remember that “In every challenge there is opportunity“.
Taking the Leap of Faith
Years ago I found myself at this professional crossroad. I was working as a teacher, my dream job, my passion, but as a single parent, I simply could not make ends meet. And while I was professionally fulfilled an empty bank account and having a hard time providing for my daughter and I left me disillusioned with Education. Half a dissertation away from my doctorate in Educational Technology, I did an about face. I earned my real estate license and have not looked back since.
It was not easy a road, I went through some really tough times and actually had to try to survive on less than a teacher’s salary at some points. But I learned and I grew so much, and in the process I discovered a career which I really love, real estate.
I may not be daring the youth of today to think and appreciate history any more, but I am still changing lives by helping families make informed decisions about buying a house. Vastly different careers, but both incredibly fulfilling in their own way. Looking back, I am glad I took that leap of faith.
A Life Changing Adventure
As you embark on this new path, this passionate life-changing adventure will excite you and consumes your thoughts completely as we eat, sleep, and work. This new strong interest will cultivate a desire in you to succeed at our dream job making us happier than ever. And even if you don’t succeed on the first try, who says you can’t try again? and again? Sometimes failure/challenges are part of the stepping stones to success. I know I had to climb many of those on my way to making my way and creating a fulfilling career for myself.
I have a friend who has always wanted to be an interior designer and own her own business. She has a prominent job but has no passion for it because it is unfulfilling. She is disillusioned by the corporate world and is starting to toy plan to leave her job and go out on her own. When she talks about it her excitement and energy is simply unmistakable – and following her passion and dreams is where her true happiness lies.
It's Never Too Late to Follow Your Dreams
Entrepreneurs are a gutsy and adventuresome crowd. You have to have nerves or steel and take great risks in order to follow your heart, but the reward on the other side is so great, wouldn’t you say it is worth it? You know for sure if you don’t try that nothing will change.
It’s never too late to follow your dreams and change careers doing the things you have dreamt about for years. Is the state of emergency presenting you with an opportunity to start? If you have been thinking and obsessing about it, it may just be life telling you now is the time to take that leap of faith and make the change.
If you never try and start your dream career, years from now you will always wonder “what if”. Life is too short not to fulfill your dreams and aspirations making you even happier than you imagined.
