Broward County Mayor Dale V.C. Holness announced that the County would begin the gradual re-opening of parks, waterways and golf courses. Mayor Matt Sparks received news of the County’s just before the announcement was made. Mayor Sparks sprung into action and begin discussions with the City Manager as to the steps that Oakland Park would take.
After many discussions the City of Oakland Park decided to go with a plan they named Phase 1 – Oakland Park parks re-opening – “Keep it Moving”. This plan is designed to open parks for passive use which would allow limited activities such as walking and jogging.
As of this morning selected City parks will open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Permitted activities include walking and jogging, biking and personal boat and kayak launching. Other activities not listed here are prohibited. A comprehensive list is appended to the bottom of this article. The City urges park-goers to practice safe social distancing measures, adhere to one-way directions as posted in the parks, to wear face masks and to “Keep it Moving” while enjoying the parks.
