Developers Kaufman Lynn and the Falcone Group have formally submitted the final renderings for the new Horizon mixed use project to the City of Oakland Park, taking the project one step further down the development pipeline.
Horizon Project Enhances Oakland Park's Urban Renaissance
With the new Sky Building construction rapidly moving forward across Dixie Highway to the west, the vision of a new and vibrant downtown Oakland Park is physically taking shape after years of planning and infrastructure redevelopment. The Horizon of Oakland Park or HOOP will add to this new and exciting vision as their development unfolds.
After the Neighborhood Participation Meeting was held on July 26th, 2023, City Staff met with the developers for the Horizon project to discuss concerns and ideas that were expressed by meeting participants, as well as City Staff concerns.
The final renderings submitted now incorporate many of those exterior design and other suggestions. There is now increased landscaping, a larger shade canopy, improved architectural details and design improvements to the new living streetscape or woonerf.

In a press release, City Manager David Hebert is quoted as saying that “The project aims to represent the brand of Oakland Park”. Mr. Hebert went on to thank both the Horizon and Sky developers for their continued commitment to the City of Oakland Park.
Now that the official plans have been submitted to the City, the project will proceed through the Development Review Committee. This committee includes representatives from several city departments whose duties are to complete a technical review of any proposed developments and provide written comments for the applicant. The applicant will apply any required/requested changes by the DRC before they proceed on to the next step.
There may be many changes along the route, both big and small, before the plans proceed out of the DRC and to the Planning and Zoning Advisory Board. After their review, the project will go before the City Commission.
