On September 7, a home security camera caught a male subject breaking into the vehicles at a home in Oakland Park. The perpetrator has not been identified and Broward Sheriff’s Office Oakland Park District detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying and apprehending the thief.

Another Vehicle Burglary in Oakland Park

At approximately 10 am, BSO responded to the report of a burglary in Oakland Park. Once at the home, deputies were apprised that the homeowner’s vehicle had been burglarized. Different neighbors approached the deputies to report that their cars had also been broken into. Together with the report from the neighbors, deputies determined that the perpetrator burglarized a total of seven cars.

BSO has released video of the crime to the public in hopes that they can help identify the thief. In the video the thief can be seen opening the car door and scouring the inside of the car for anything of value. After searching the black vehicle he enters a green car parked next to the first vehicle and after he looks around the inside he takes off. The thief was wearing a dark colored jacket and light colored shorts.

Investigators Ask the Public for Help

If you recognize this thief, contact BSO Detective Anthony Wong at 954-202-3119.

Anonymous tipsters should contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org. A reward of up to $5000 may be paid for tips that lead to an arrest.

Detectives urge residents to remove any and all valuables from their cars, and to make sure their cars are locked each night. This time of crime is a crime of opportunity and if car doors are locked thieves will likely not persist and move on.
