New Mixed Use Development Proposed for Wilton Drive

The Shoppes of Wilton Manors Sold

The Shoppes of Wilton Manors property was purchased in 2018 by Wilton Drive Owner LLC. This company is a joint venture between Terra and Grass River Property. They paid $21 million for the site. TH Commercial Mortgage provided a $22.82 million loan to the buyer.

The plaza, an epicenter of activity along The Drive, will now be redeveloped into a center for modern and urban living.

Paving The Way For A New Vision

The redevelopment of the plaza would not, however, be possible if not for some changes made by the City of Wilton Manors. Recently, the City amended their building codes to allow additional density. These changes paved the way for the new vision of the aging single story shopping center.

WilMa On The Drive

RSP Architects released artists renderings and project information for the new mixed use development that will replace the Shoppes. The new complex, according to RSP‘s website, will be rebranded as “WilMa On The Drive”.

Right In The Center of It All

The new mixed use project will transform that corner of Wilton Manors into a vibrant and exciting destination. It will be in the heart of the city’s entertainment and shopping district, adding another option, for residents and tourists to visit along the world famous Drive.

Located at the southeast corner of of NE 7th Avenue and Wilton Drive, the proposed project will consist of a seven story mixed use building. There will be 252 multi-family units, 24,430 square feet of new commercial space and 30,907 square feet of existing commercial space.

Current tenants of the plaza  include Hunter’s, Java Boys and George’s Alibi. They will remain and will form the core of the development. A parking structure with 465 spaces will also be constructed.

Like many other new development projects in the area, such as Blys and Oaklyn, the amenities at WilMa are made for modern, urban living. Residential amenities will include a large pool deck overlooking downtown Fort Lauderdale, pickleball courts, a fitness center, luxury spa, pet zone, pub room and a sky lounge with an outdoor movie theater overlooking Wilton Drive.

Project to Be Presented To Planning And Zoning

The project is scheduled to come before the Wilton Manors Planning and Zoning Board on April 17th 2023.
