Recount For Second Seat On The Oakland Park City Commission Scheduled
A machine recount of Oakland Park’s election contest is expected to take place
A machine recount of Oakland Park’s election contest is expected to take place on Monday, November 14 at 10 a.m. following a nail-biting finish for the second of two seats on the Oakland Park City Commission.
Former two-time mayor Tim Lonergan led a field of six candidates by a large margin to win a seat on the Commission in Tuesday’s election. Lonergan easily sailed to victory with 4168 votes (25.99%).
The recount next Monday will verify who won the second seat on the Commission. In a last-minute, come-from behind upset, another political veteran, Steven Arnst narrowly defeated newcomer Leticia “Tish” Newbold by 39 votes, triggering the recount.
Peter Jackson, a trained journalist, comes from a 30-year career in publishing. During his three decade career, which started at the young age of 25, he went from owning a community publishing company to being the VP of Sales & Marketing for one of the country’s largest private media companies. In 2009 he retired from the world of media and made a home for himself in Fort Lauderdale.
No stranger to hard work, in his retirement he built three fitness related businesses in the course of just seven years. After he sold his fitness businesses in 2015, he decided to focus on coaching small business owners and media groups.
The Oakland Park Business Association is Jackson’s latest project.
