Yesterday, just after 5:00 am, a call came into Broward Regional Communications which reported crash involving a Tri-Rail train and a pedestrian. The crash occurred in the area of West Prospect Road and Northwest Ninth Avenue in Oakland Park.
BSO deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to the scene of the crash. At the scene deputies located a male who had been struck by the train. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Accident or Suicide?
The investigation, so far, revealed that the pedestrian was laying in a fetal position along the tracks. As the train got closer the pedestrian did not move and was struck by the train. Immediately after the collision the train engineer halted the train and called emergency services.
The investigation into this latest death by a train is ongoing. Given the initial information about the occurrence it appears to have all the indications of being another case of suicide by train.
