The Best of Times for The City on the Move

There is no doubt that the City on the Move, Oakland Park, is going places. As each day passes, the City edges closer and closer to establishing its own identity and character, and in the process shedding its reputation as a pass-through city. For Oakland Park, it is clear that these times are the best and most exciting of times.

Business as a Bedrock

While Oakland Park moves forward and upward, it is important that the City also have a strong business community as its bedrock. This concept idea is the founding principle at the heart of the new Oakland Park Business Association, according to Peter Jackson, the long-time Oakland Park resident and entrepreneur, who is leading the charge behind the formation of this new business association.

Peter Jackson, The Founder

Jackson may be bringing something new to Oakland Park, but Jackson is no stranger to being behind many a successful business.

Jackson, a trained journalist, comes from a 30-year career in publishing. During his three decade career, which started at the young age of 25, he went from owning a community publishing company to being the VP of Sales & Marketing for one of the country’s largest private media companies. In 2009 he retired from the world of media and made a home for himself in Fort Lauderdale.

No stranger to hard work, in his retirement he built three fitness related businesses in the course of just seven years. After he sold his fitness businesses in 2015, he decided to focus on coaching small business owners and media groups.

The Oakland Park Business Association is Jackson’s latest project. LivingInOaklandPark.com caught up with him to find out what exactly he has planned for this latest endeavor.

The Oakland Park Business Association

We asked Jackson what he hoped to achieve through the Oakland Park Business Association and he shared with us the following:

Small businesses are the bedrock of every community. Providing support to these businesses in the form of business connections, networking, and collaborative advertising and marketing opportunities means our business community will flourish and the entire community becomes stronger. The Oakland Park Business Association will serve as a sort of loudspeaker for its members, using our print, digital and social media network to amplify and promote our members to a larger and wider audience than any individual business can do on their own.

The Inaugural Meeting

Last night, Monday May 23, at the Butcher’s Barrel in downtown Oakland Park, the Oakland Park Business Association held its first meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to gather support from key business owners on the formation of the association, as well as the launch of a print and digital city guide and directory and to introduce the association’s steering committee. Members of the committee include: Desiree Avila, local Realtor® and publisher of Living In Oakland Park; Bela Nahori, Chainbridge Distillery; Vito Labalestra, eXp Realty; Irv Scott, Servpro; and Tim Moffitt, Umbrella Credit Services.

In attendance were about 32 business owners and City Commissioners Jane Bolin and Mitch Rosenwald. Both commissioners voiced loud support for the association and its publication of the Oakland Park City Guide and Business Directory.

Needless to say the meeting was a great success!

So What Is the Oakland Park City Guide and Business Finder?

As the City continues to grow, the need for a City Guide and Business Finder become a necessity. To that end, launching this summer, is another facet of Jackson’s vision, the Oakland Park City Guide & Business Directory. This print and online directory will feature and promote the best of Oakland Park. It will be a free, pocket-sized book packed with information and widely distributed every six months.

For business owners, it is an affordable advertising resource that will connect their business to Oakland Park’s almost 50,000 residents, and the world, in print and online 24/7 for six months, and Jackson shares that it will all be for one low price!
