Downtown Oakland Park once known as the home of City Hall and warehouses has undergone quite a transformation in the last few years. Now full of hip restaurants, bars and numerous small businesses, downtown Oakland Park will soon be welcoming a clothing boutique.
The Wander Shop, a locally owned women’s boutique will be having its grand opening this Saturday, May 29th from 12pm-8pm. Marisa Folz, an 8 year resident of Oakland Park, who resides here with her fiancé Ben and Golden Retriever Banjo is bringing her whimsical boho fashions and gifts right here to our very own downtown.
The Wander Shop has been in business for 6 years, with Marisa starting her dream of owning a boutique by selling her fashions from an airstream trailer. The last couple of years her shop has been located in the downtown Flagler area but Marisa recently decided to relocate her business to Oakland Park.
“As a resident and homeowner of Oakland Park, I have seen the growth in the last few years,” said Folz, “I wanted to move my business to downtown Oakland Park because I love our friendly neighborhood feel and I want to be part of the growth in building this city”. Folz feels there is not much shopping in Oakland Park and it will be nice for people to have a place locally to shop for clothes and gifts. Marisa hopes to eventually collaborate with Flamingo Flea, a well-known South Florida flea market, to sponsor events right in Downtown Oakland Park.
The new store located at 3548 NE 12th Avenue, a few doors down from Butcher’s Barrel, is a quaint and airy boutique with pastel murals covering its walls, delicate florals and a relaxing lounge area. The fashion is bohemian chic with feminine clothing and sun dresses perfect for our Florida weather. While this boutique has many items catering to the millennial generation, it also has clothing and gifts for all ages including kimonos, jewelry, candles and even dog bandanas.
The grand opening will be quite the community event. While you check out the cute fashions, accessories, and gifts, Marisa will be serving a variety of sweet treats, Funky Buddha seltzers, and champagne donated by the Small Wine Shop. Also on hand will be a photo booth, flower bar and a tarot card reader. Downtown’s very own Butcher’s Barrel will be giving away coupons to their restaurant with every purchase and the boutique will also be having a raffle with over 20 cool prizes.
Please stop by the grand opening this Saturday, May 29th between 12pm and 8pm located at 3548 NE 12th Avenue, Downtown Oakland Park. You can check out The Wander Shop’s fashions on Instagram @tothewandershop. As always, please be willing to support our local small businesses which are a part of this wonderful city because together we are Oakland Park.
