Special Commission Meeting Will Select Five Finalists For City Commission Appointment

When the clock struck noon on February 15th, 2023, the deadline for submitting an application for the empty City Commission seat left by Matthew Sparks, expired. A week before only one application had been submitted, but by the deadline, 13 applications had been submitted to the City Clerk.

City Receives 13 Applications

Of the 13 applications, 5 were submitted on the 15th. The 13 applicants are:

  2. Christopher Fischer
  3. Jennifer Garcia Kovacs
  4. Brian Jones
  5. Lisa Jones
  6. John W. LaDouceur
  7. Christina (Chris) Landers
  8. Kedner Maxime
  9. Letitia Newbold
  10. Michael S. Nicotera
  11. John Michael Perez
  12. Tamara L. Wray
  13. George Wulin

Special Commission Meeting Will Select Five Finalists

On February 16, after the candidates’ names were released, the City informed that on Wednesday, February 22, a Special City Commission meeting will be held to select five of the thirteen applicants as finalists for the appointment to the City  Commission.

The meeting agenda is as follows:

    1. Presentation of Applicants (4 minutes each)
      Commission Questions (1 minute each).
    2. Commission to each select an applicant and by majority vote select a fifth applicant.
    3. Motion to accept (5) applicants for appointment determination on 3-1-23.
    4. Discussion.
    5. Vote on Motion.

If you would like your choice of applicant or applicants to be heard, send your comments (100 word maximum) to publiccomments@oaklandparkfl.gov, or by registering with the city clerk’s office at 954-630-4300, no later than 5:00 p.m. the day of the meeting to receive Zoom meeting log-in information for verbal comments (no longer than 2 minutes).

The new member will be joining Mayor Aisha Gordon, Vice Mayor Mitch Rosenwald, Commission Steven Arnst and Commissioner Tim Lonergan.
