Excessive Speed: A Current Problem in Oakland Park
Investigators believe that excessive speed by the driver of the Nissan Versa to be a major contributing factor to this crash.
This fatality due to excessive speed is at least the second one in Oakland Park in the last two months. The other fatality occurred late in the evening on August 21, 2021 when a small car crashed into a BMW right in front of the entrance to the Whispering Lakes neighborhood off of Prospect Road. The small caught fire and the driver lost their life.
Residents voiced their concerns to City officials regarding the plethora of accidents on Prospect Road as a result of speeding. A meeting is being scheduled to address these concerns but after this fatality it may indeed be necessary to expand the scope of the area which will be addressed at this up and coming meeting.
