This past Friday, December 6th Oakland Park Oakland Park kicked off its 4th annual Holiday Village with a Tree Lighting Ceremony. Santa was ushered in with the help of the Northeast High School marching band. Along with Mayor Sparks he lit the giant Christmas tree and the menorahs and the party was on!

As part of the festivities the City held its annual annual Christmas Tree Decorating Competition. Amidst the fun and the fanfare the trees were perused by all until finally the judges came to a decision in each of the three main categories: Best Children’s Tree, Best Florida Tree, and Best Traditional Tree. There was also a fourth category, the People’s Choice category.
This competition included a Florida themed Christmas tree. This allowed decorators to use their imagination and join Florida themes and Christmas in a very unique way. Ocean Conservationist Lisa Miceli, who won the Florida Tree competition, went all out on her Stoked on Salt Christmas tree. Her tree included sea themed decorations like a dive mask, sea horses, sailboat, mermaid and other ornaments that brought the tree to life in a truly Floridian way.
Be Our Guests Apartments out of Fort Lauderdale added Florida flair with an alligator, and Publix bag. They brought Florida to Christmas but in a way all their own.
Sal’s Towing took the spirit of Christmas one step further and delivered each of the trees to an Oakland Park family in need. Way to go Sal’s Towing!
