Thank you for your time and interest in learning about my campaign – I am running for Oakland Park City Commission because, like you, I want our city to shine even brighter! Originally from Maryland, I am a six-year resident of Oakland Park and a 13-year resident of Broward County. In Oakland Park, I serve as the President of the Neighborhood Coalition of Oakland Park, the President of the Corals of Oakland Park Neighborhood Association, a graduate of the Local Government Academy, and a member of Kiwanis service organization, Census Committee, and Volunteer Corps. For my career, I am a Professor of Social Work at Barry University, a Florida licensed clinical social worker, and earned a PhD and Masters’ degrees from University of Maryland and Syracuse University, respectively. In Broward County, I have volunteered with Broward Partnership for the Homeless and Guardian ad Litem (child welfare), and I worked at Gilda’s Club (oncology support).
What will you do for the City of Oakland Park? Why should Oakland Park Residents vote for you?
My first priority is to improve our schools’ quality by holding Broward County Board of Education accountable – through quarterly reports at the Commission – for increasing our schools’ grades. My second priority is to increase safety by ensuring BSO and Fire/Rescue have the resources they need and to re-invigorate the Citizen Patrol throughout the city. My third priority is to continue to recruit outstanding small businesses to our downtown, central and western sections of our city and to have businesses flourish with clean and appealing storefront facades. My fourth priority to promote a “Greener” Oakland Park by increasing the number of city-owned urban parks and hiring a few more employees to remove litter throughout the city.
My record of leadership shows my investment in Oakland Park. With a great team of people, I founded and serve as President of the Neighborhood Coalition of Oakland Park. The Coalition brings residents of Oakland Park together to address such issues as crime and safety, traffic, and the future development of the city block where City Hall currently resides. Additionally, I serve as founding President of the Corals of Oakland Park Neighborhood Association which organizes advocacy efforts, block parties, and a Neighborhood Watch initiative. Finally, drawing on my profession as a licensed social worker and a professor, I will bring critical thinking and judgment, and ethical decision-making to the Commission.
My name is Mitch Rosenwald and I would be honored to have your vote for my campaign for Oakland Park City Commission.
