Suspected Shooter Caught on Camera in Oakland Park

At approximately 1pm on Wednesday June 1, BSO deputies responded to call at the Days Inn Motel at 1595 W. Oakland Park Blvd., just west of I-95. The call reported a crash with injuries. When deputies arrived on the scene they determined more than a crash had occurred.

A silver Chevy Malibu had crashed into a storage container and it was clear he had been shot.

Camera Captures Car Crashing

Investigators obtained surveillance video from a camera at the location and caught most of the crime on camera.

The surveillance video footage shows the Chevy Malibu entering the parking lot and backing into a spot. Suddenly the car abruptly hits the curb behind the parking spot.  The suspected shooter then exits the passenger’s side and walks over to the driver’s side door. He does something while on the driver’s side but it is unclear what.

He goes back to the passenger side and moments later, in the video, the shipping container shakes when the Chevy Malibu hits it. Seconds after the container shakes, the suspect can be seen leaving the scene holding what appears to be a red duffle bag. Detectives believe the man seen exiting the car shot the driver and faked the crash to cover up the robbery.

BSO is Looking for Gunman

BSO Investigators are asking the public’s help in identifying the shooter.  If you have any information, contact Det. Kevin White at 954-321-4215 or to submit a tip through the SaferWatch App. To make an anonymous report contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or dial **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States.
