Fatal Shooting Near Publix at Dixie Crossing

On Tuesday July 20th at around 4pm, BSO received a call regarding a shooting. The incident took place at 4900 NE 9th Ave., near the Publix supermarket at Dixie Crossing. When police arrived on the scene they found man suffering from a gunshot wound. Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to the incident and transported the victim to the hospital for surgery. The victim whose name is being withheld until his next of kin are notified, died in the early morning hours of July 21, 2021. 

Details Of The Shooting

According to the investigation the suspect and the victim engaged in a verbal confrontation. The victim drove his car closer to the suspect and then exited his car. Upon exiting his car, the suspect, shot at the victim, fatally striking him. 

BSO established a perimeter and were able to locate the suspect, a 16 year old teenager. A handgun was found in his backpack. The suspect was charged with 2nd degree murder and subsequently transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing.
