Worth Repeating Fine Consignment Store: The Name Says it All!

“I like my money right where I can see it… Hanging in my closet”, claimed fashion guru Carrie Bradshaw on the iconic show Sex and the City.

Upscale designer consignment store Worth Repeating on 1732 NE 26th Street, in Wilton Manors, is the perfect place to land those designer treasures Bradshaw spoke of without the exorbitant price tag.

Margie Helmholdt, a fashion merchandising graduate, opened the store initially in 1989 on Sunrise Blvd, and then relocated to 26th street in 1998 right near Dr. Robert Helmholdt’s longstanding orthodontic practice – her husband – in Wilton Manors.

Her daughter Maggie, a part of the business for a long time now,  graciously answers consignment questions and fields shopper’s inquiries as well as handles business transactions at the store.

“We’ve got what your closet is missing”

High end shoppers will drool at the Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Jimmy Choo, Tory Burch, Burberry, Dolce&Gabbana, Dior, Fendi, Marc Jacobs, YSL, Pucci, Balenciaga, Nancy Gonzalez, Manolo Blahnik, Valention, Versace and Hermes brands of shoes, handbags, wallets, dresses, blouses, jeans, skirts and shorts that the store displays, to name a few. Lovely jewelry, scarfs, perfume, and accessories are also available.

Worth Repeating also offers a beautiful assortment of medium priced, pre-owned brands like JCrew, Coach, Theory and Lily Pulitzer. Interested consigners may begin consignment here with a minimum of 15-20 items, on hangers, with a 40-60 consigner/storeowner profit split. Additional details of Worth Repeating Consignment Store policies are available on the store’s website.

Online Shopping: A Blessing or Not?

Maggie shares that the uptick in online consignment shopping, particularly during the pandemic, has actually helped to accurately price merchandise. Her shoppers often search online consignment sites regularly, often when they are shopping in the store, so price points are frequently a level playing field.

Many shoppers prefer the in person experience of trying on clothes (Worth Repeating has fabulously kept its dressing rooms open during Covid-19 pandemic with diligent cleaning protocols), of touching fabric in person, and of safely leaving their homes to shop in a quiet, socially distanced environment.

Maggie also points out that the house AND the consigner securing fair profits is a high priority.

The Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on Retail

Like most businesses in South Florida at the onset of the pandemic, Worth Repeating was shuttered for 2 months, late March to late May 2020. The store reopened with a sale in late May and despite a slow summer season, recent sales have been on the upswing.

Sadly, many big box stores, department stores, local boutiques and restaurants closed in 2020 due to the pandemic, yet Worth Repeating endures. Maggie shares that many shoppers like the quiet, calm experience at the store (and the open dressing rooms are a BIG advantage!), and the socially distant, yet socially interactive nature of in person shopping at the small store.

The Future of Worth Repeating

Maggie thoroughly enjoys the consignment business and has worked in the family store most of her life. She fondly recalls hear early days working there, removing security tags from clothes in middle school and high school.

Worth Repeating remains a thriving, fashion forward paradise in the heart of east Fort Lauderdale. So if you are looking for something that is special or would like to consign something special, check out Worth Repeating.
