Oakland Bark Park Continues to Be Closed Until Further Notice

Residents of Oakland Park are eagerly awaiting the reopening of our local Dog Park, Oakland Bark. Oakland Bark is located at 971 NW 38 Street in Oakland Park, FL, and has been closed since March due to safety concerns surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

CDC Recommendations for Pet Owners

According to the CDC, there is a small risk that people with COVID-19 could spread the virus to animals which is why the CDC recommended that pet owners limit their pet’s interaction with people outside their household. However, as more and more places open up in Broward County our beloved dog park remains closed.

Based on the recommendation from the CDC, pet owners are encouraged to continue to “treat pets as you would other human family members to protect them from possible infection and to talk to your veterinarian if your pet gets sick or if you have any concerns about your pet’s health.”

Community of Frustration

Living in Oakland Park Facebook page has been a platform for many residents to voice their frustration and concerns surrounding the park’s delayed opening. This has stemmed from the fact that public spaces across Oakland Park have slowly opened back up for business. Resident India Tiana commented on the Living in Oakland Park Facebook page, “I don’t understand how the beaches are open but not the dog barks. I consider it essential.”

I reached out to some Oakland Park resident pet owners to see how they’re keeping their furry friends active and some have mentioned that they take long walks around their neighborhood to get some exercise for their pet. Others have yards and can let them roam around there, but in either case, they too are anxiously awaiting the park’s reopening since there are features at the parks that are not found anywhere else.

About Oakland Bark

Oakland Bark has many features to accommodate our furry friends. There are separate fenced areas that separate the smaller dogs from the bigger dogs. What’s most special about this park is that it offers exercise stations for our pets such as an agility course. Other features of the park include a dog wash area, fire hydrant, and parking for 30 vehicles. The usual hours for the parks are 7:30 am to Dusk (all year long).

Stay tuned to Living In Oakland Park for news about Oakland Bark’s re-opening.
