Oakland Park Invited to Sidelines and Seniors Graduation Parade

Northeast High School will be hosting virtual graduation on June 17th, commending graduating seniors for their outstanding commitment to education during such unprecedented times, but the City of Oakland Park wanted to take things further for the Class of 2020.

Yard Signs to Decorate Senior's Homes

With the help of city officials such as Matthew Sparks, Mayor, Jane Bolin, Vice Mayor, Heidi Burnette, Director of Library and Cultural Services, as well as the Oakland Park Parks and Recreation Department. The city will distribute celebratory yard signs to decorate the lawns of Northeast High School graduates who reside in Oakland Park.

Wanting to take things even further, Jane Bolin reached out to the Oakland Park Kiwanis and Oakland Park Rotary club to put together gift bags for every senior. Each senior will receive a gift bag when they pick up their caps and gowns on Monday, June 1st, and Tuesday, June 2nd. The gift bags will include stickers, candy bars, and a few special surprises.

Sidelines & Seniors Parade

The City has also coordinated a “Sidelines & Seniors Parade” which is set to take place on Thursday, June 4th at 5:00 pm. The tentative route will begin at The Behavioral Health Center on Dixie Highway and N.W. 56th Street. Seniors that participate in the parade will meet at 4:00pm. Seniors and their decorated cars will head west on 56th Street. The end of the parade route will be N.E. 6th Avenue, at Gracepoint Church, where the seniors will circle back around.

Residents, former and future alumni, parents, students, and engaged citizens are invited to attend and participate on the sidelines. Parade attendees are encouraged to create signs, bring balloons and other festive gear to lift the spirits of the graduating class. It is important that sideline participants keep in mind social distancing guidelines and wear PPE accordingly.

Northeast High School’s colors are black and red. So, gather your face paint, posters, and school spirit and join our Northeast High School Seniors for their graduation parade. Congratulations Northeast High School, Class of 2020!
