Experience Polynesia at the Annual Polynesian Cultural Festival

Aloha! Grab your grass skirt and lei and head over to Jaco Pastorius Park for the Polynesian Annual Cultural Festival! This festival is the brainchild of Tama Leao, President of the Polynesian Culture Association, located here in our own backyard of Oakland Park. He created the PCA to create awareness of the Polynesian Culture. The Festival started in Oakland Park years ago, moved to neighboring city Wilton Manors for a few years, and has found it’s home again in Oakland Park. Leao wanted to create a fun weekend for families that would not break the bank. This family friendly event will have something for everyone!

A Chance to Learn About Polynesian Culture

With the entry fee of $10, children under 12 are free, partygoers can learn many Polynesian Dances, learn about local customs, and sample many traditional Polynesian foods and drinks. Yes, the Mai Tai will definitely be making an appearance in all of it’s fruity glory! For those of you looking for something else, the Festival will be offering beers from local favorite, Funky Buddha and also from Sapporo. Tasty food showcasing exotic flavors from Polynesia will also be available so take a walk on the wild side and sample some delicious food.

Fun for the Family

While you’re at the Festival, let the kids get their faces painted by local artist and take a jump in the bounce house all free of charge. Learn to dance the hula and other traditional dances by the main stage and see many performances put on by Entertainers from near and far. Leao, an Entertainer himself, knows everyone who is anyone in the Polynesian culture and has invited the best of the best to head up the entertainment.

There will be live music, Hula Dancers, a Hula Contest, Fire knife Dancers, and and awesome Ukulele exhibition. Don’t want to shake your coconuts? That’s ok too. There will be an arts and crafts tent with lots of Polynesian garments and items from around the world. Don’t skip the tent for your very own Hawaiian shirt!
