Permitting is one of those city requirements that people always have doubts about. This article was compiled from the FAQs from the City of Oakland Park in order to clarify some of the most common questions. Of course you will probably have many more questions. Permits are required when performing structural work or new construction.

As long as the homeowner meets the exemption requirement provided for in the State Statute 489.103(7) (a) they can apply for their own permit .
The homeowner is required to submit the building permit application in person. They must also certify compliance by reading and understanding the Owner/Builder Affidavit and Disclosure Statement. This type of permitting is recommended for small, miscellaneous jobs such as fences and walkways. Larger jobs are more complex and the homeowner should consider hiring an experienced contractor in order to avoid issues.
