Code Violations and How to Avoid Them
Nobody likes receiving a citation, much less for something that could have easily been avoided. In this article Donald Quier, Administrator for the City of Oakland Park’s Community Enhancement division shared with us the three most common code violations and how to avoid them.
Bulk Trash Violation
Bulk trash items placed out for collection by the Solid Waste Department more than 48 hours before scheduled pickup are a violation. In order to avoid receiving a citation for this, adhere to the pickup schedule.
The city is dived into four sections, each section starts on a Monday of the month. Bulk trash can be placed out for pick up a maximum of 48 hours before the scheduled pickup or the Saturday before the scheduled Monday pickup.

Trash Carts
Trash carts and recycle carts must be removed from the curb by 11:00PM the day of service. Trash and recycle carts must be stored behind the front wall or side yard of the building to which service is provided, or screened from view of the right of way (street or alley).
Parking In The Yard And Not On A Paved Surface
All vehicles including boats and trailers are required to be parked or stored on a paved surface. The City of Oakland Park allows parking on the swale in single family and duplex zoned districts. Vehicles must be parked in the same direction as the traffic flow and have their registration up to date.
If a resident has more vehicles, including boats and trailers, than parking spaces and additional parking is needed, then a building permit is required to add additional parking areas to the property.
